Hi folks, here’s the latest in our series of lighthearted ‘slice of life’ dispatches, straight from our anonymous reporter in the field!
We are all, of course, very familiar with the matter sheets affixed to the walls in our rest areas, displaying information used for our designation and care, and often noting the words we prefer to use when invoking good blood fortune.
Hopeful phrases like ‘getting home’, ‘merciful escape’, ‘being discharged’ and ‘sweet release’ are all perennial favourites, although if your fortunes are anything like ours this current round, even the most lucky words on your sheet are used in ‘vein’!
So earlier this week, local residents were excited to notice that one of the familiar sheets has been given a decorative, artistic twist. The heartwarming new wall art celebrates the simple pleasures of home and family, reminding us that, while it sometimes seems like a distant dream, home is real and we will get back there, when the blood fortunes are right.

With the traditional information displayed in text across the upper half of the sheet, the piece playfully subverts the form in the lower half, portraying the artist’s beloved and much-missed husband and cats in a loose and freehand style, juxtaposing soft, human themes of love, family and home against stark, factual information.
The simplistic lines, and almost childlike use of marker pen as the medium, give the piece a touch of naive joy and certainly helps add some fun folksy charm and comfort to the artist’s designated rest area.
The piece is currently on display in Ward B4 – let us know what you think and if it’s inspired you to brighten up your own matter sheet!
This wall art project was generously funded by the Health Service of the People as part of their unceasing oath to place us and keep us all at the visceral, palpating heart of our care.
